A Peaceful Way Home Care’ compassionate caregivers deliver the practical and emotional care for hospice care support and palliative care support for the client and the family.
What is the difference between hospice and palliative care?
This is a question we are sometimes asked by family members when a loved one is severely ill.
While the objective of both hospice and palliative care is pain and symptom relief, the prognosis and goals of care tend to be different.

Hospice care is compassionate comfort care without curative intent; the client no longer has curative options or has chosen not to pursue treatment because the side effects outweigh the benefits.
Palliative care is compassionate comfort care with or without curative intent. It is begun at the discretion of the physician and client at any stage of an illness (terminal or not), at diagnosis, during curative treatment and follow-up, and at end of life. Palliative care provides relief from the symptoms and physical and mental stress of a serious or life-limiting illness.
Palliative care doesn’t mean someone is giving up. It just means that the focus is on receiving effective pain relief that allows the client to live comfortably, and with the goal to maintain quality of life so the client may live a meaningful way.
Palliative care is most often provided in a hospital, but is sometimes provided in the client’s home. Depending on a client’s health, the client may need palliative care occasionally or continuously. Interdisciplinary teams deliver both hospice and palliative care. They address physical, emotional and spiritual pain, including such common worries as loss of independence, the well-being of the family and feeling like a burden.
